Reasons Why Knitting and Crocheting Make the Best Hobby

With there being so many things to do in your spare time, it is really important to find something that is really enjoyable. There is nothing like having a hobby that you are passionate about. Whether you knit, bake, paint, fish, or golf, you should be doing it because it’s something that’s near and dear to your heart. After all, you’re more than likely pursuing your hobby after a long, hard day’s work, so you might as well have a ball with it. For me, I feel this way about knitting and crocheting. There’s almost nothing else that brings me more pleasure than making things out of a ball of yarn. Here are several reasons why knitting and crocheting make for a great hobby.

You can do it anywhere

One of the best things about knitting and crocheting is the fact that you can take it with you anywhere you go. Whether you’re on a plane, train, bus, a park, waiting at the doctor’s office, or even at a restaurant, you can take your craft with you. This is one hobby that ensures that you can never get bored no matter where you are because you can simply crack open your supplies that can easily be carried along in a purse or small bag, and get to work. Another thing that I love about knitting is the fact that I can be watching along to one of my favorite shows while knitting at the same time and not miss anything! You can’t beat it!

It’s relaxing

Knitting and crocheting has been said to help many people through depression and can help improve your mood. It is very calming and relaxing to set down and create something out nothing but yarn. To relax and create something that you love is just an all around mood lifter, and who doesn’t want to take part in things that make them feel good?

You can get creative

You can get super creative when creating something out of yarn. You may not know what you’re going to make when you first get started, but you can end up with a masterpiece once finished. Whether you’re knitting a blanket, toboggan, a sweater, or gift for a loved one, you know that you’re creating something with love and something that someone close to you will really appreciate and enjoy. There’s no better feeling.

It’s not very expensive

Knitting and crocheting have to be one of the most inexpensive hobbies ever. Everyone has a pair of scissors lying around the house, so once you’ve purchased your sewing needle and crochet hook, all you need to do is purchase the yarn you need. You don’t need to purchase more unless you run out or need a special color for a specific project. Did I mention how inexpensive yarn is at craft stores? You honestly can’t find a better hobby that is easier on the pockets than this.

It’s eco-friendly

Knitting and crocheting can become very eco-friendly especially if you buy organic yarn and yarn that comes from ranches that preserve our land. This way, you aren’t contributing to any waste and aren’t using your creations for the landfill. It feels very good to know you aren’t contributing to pollution of air while still able to do something that you enjoy.

You can give back

When wanting to do something nice for others, there’s nothing better than knitting or crocheting something for them. Not to mention, the amount of charities and churches that accept and need knitted and crocheted items. You can knit sweaters, socks, hats, gloves, and blankets for those in need. It can really make you feel accomplished to create something out of your love for knitting and give it to those in need!

Making connections

Getting together, connecting, and meeting up with other people who enjoy the craft just as much as you can be something truly amazing. There’s nothing like forming a community of like-minded individuals who share the same love for knitting and crocheting as you. You can get together, teach one another new things, share stories, and knit pieces together as apart of a project. There’s nothing better than meeting other yarn enthusiasts and forming a bond!

Final Thoughts

When it comes to knitting and crocheting, there’s almost nothing that I love more. I truly enjoy being able to knit things that people can really use and do it no matter where I am or what I’m doing. Other hobbies of mine include playing card games at Cardzmania.com and Pokerstarscasino.com, and the best thing about that is most of the time, I can still play and knit all at the same time! If you’re obsessed with yarn, what is it that you love about knitting and crocheting? Did I miss anything? Feel free to chime in with your thoughts!
